Our Story – Escape From Poverty
Building Blocks Learning Centres stay open in the afternoons to support and mentor scholarship students who drop in for help with new subjects and homework from their new schools.
This support is vital for those pupils who may initially be uncomfortable in their new schools, mixing with children from more privileged backgrounds, and sometimes needing help with unfamiliar topics in their homework
“Escape from Poverty” is a registered charitable project, raising funding in Britain to provide Sponsorships and scholarships to cover ongoing mentoring and extra tuition in addition to covering 70% of school fees.”
Three years of education at a Building Blocks Learning Centre is completely free of any charge to the children and their parents
After three years, children “graduate” from Building Blocks and are qualified to take up a place at an English-medium school, through from age 6 to age 16.
Even though the children’s families have limited income, they pay 30% of the school fees. We have found that making this contribution ensures they take their children’s future seriously and supports their continuing commitment to their child’s education.
Escape from Poverty is a British charity raising funds for Family Development Services, the educational charity in South India, which operates “Building Blocks” free pre-school Learning Centres for impoverished children resident in seven slum districts located around the city of Bangalore.
